Federal Tuition Assistance

The Federal Tuition Assistance Program provides financial assistance to Army National Guard Soldiers in support of their professional and personal self-development goals. Army National Guard Soldiers are eligible for this benefit after graduation from either Advanced Individual Training (AIT), Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC), or Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC). New Jersey Army National Guard soldiers that are attending private New Jersey colleges or out-of-state colleges should take full advantage of this benefit.

The program is available for courses that are offered in the classroom or by distance learning and is part of an approved academic degree or certificate program. The courses must be offered by schools that are registered in GoArmyEd, are accredited by accrediting agencies that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and are signatories to the current Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding.


Benefit overview:

  • Soldiers may take up to 16 semester hours (SH) per fiscal year at the rate of $250/SH each year with an annual ceiling of $4,500.
  • Soldiers may use this benefit to pursue post-secondary education at the following levels: certificate/diploma, associate, bachelor’s, and master’s
